Collection : Hattie Bishop Speed (1858-1942) collection
Date/Extent : ca. 1877-1952, 38 volumes
Description : Hattie Bishop Speed was a pianist, humanist, and philanthropist who championed music and the arts in Louisville. She provided a music room in her home for recitals and concerts by the local Bach Club and other groups. This collection includes printed programs for those events, most between 1914 and 1942, as well as programs for recitals and concerts collected by Mrs. Speed during travel throughout the United States and Europe between 1877 to1926. Her travel is also documented through a postcard album. The focus of the collection is musical scores, most for piano, including many unusual Louisville imprints.
