Description : The Kentucky Quilt Project was one of the first organizations stimulating the collection of information about and promoting interest in the craft of quilting on a local, national, and international basis. The organization originated the concept of "Quilt Days" which were designed and held with the goal of finding fine and unique examples of antique quilts as well as quilts with intact provenance, including known makers and histories. These papers contain approximately one thousand Kentucky quilt images with written documentation including transparencies, slides, snapshots, and Polaraoid prints. In addition, the collection contains comprehensive project records, correspondence, printed material, minutes, photographs, and video tapes. The Kentucky Quilt Project was proposed in 1980 by Bruce Mann and cofounded in 1981 by Eleanor Bingham Miller, Eunice Sears, Dorothy West, and Shelly Zegart.
